There are a few things you can do to troubleshoot why your PC is unable to connect to your scanner.
First, make sure that the scanner is turned on and that the cable is properly connected. If the scanner is plugged into a power strip, make sure that the strip is turned on. Also, check to see if there are any other devices that are using the same port as your scanner. If there are, try unplugging them and connecting the scanner to another port.
Check how your scanner connects to your PC
- If your scanner is connected to your PC via USB, make sure that the USB cable is properly plugged into both devices. If it is not, try plugging it in a different port. Also, make sure that the USB drivers are installed and up-to-date.
- Via Ethernet: If your scanner is connected to your PC via Ethernet, make sure that the Ethernet cable is properly plugged into both devices. If it is not, try plugging it in a different port. Also, check to see if there are any other devices that are using the same network as your scanner. If there are, try unplugging them and connecting the scanner to another network.
- Via WiFi: If your scanner is connected to your PC via WiFi, make sure that the WiFi network is properly set up and that your scanner is within range of the network. Also, check to see if there are any other devices that are using the same WiFi network as your scanner. If there are, try unplugging them and connecting the scanner to another WiFi network.
- Once you have verified that the cable and drivers are installed correctly and that the scanner is within range of its network, there are several other troubleshooting steps you can take.
- One thing to try is restarting both devices. Sometimes a simple restart will fix the issue.
- If restarting does not work, you can try disabling then re-enabling the USB driver
Other things you can do:
Check firewall settings
If your scanner cannot talk to your computer, it could be an issue with your firewall. Make sure your scanner is listed as an allowed program in your firewall settings.
Check antivirus settings
Your antivirus software might also be blocking your scanner from communicating with your computer. Make sure the scanner is listed as an allowed program in your antivirus settings.
If you’ve tried all of these troubleshooting steps and your PC still can’t connect to the scanner, there may be a problem with the scanner itself. In this case, you’ll need to contact the scanner’s manufacturer for assistance.
Check device manager
In Device Manager, check to see if your scanner is listed under Imaging devices. If it’s not, you may need to reinstall the scanner’s drivers.
Reinstall scanner drivers
If all else fails, you may need to reinstall the scanner driver. This can be done by visiting the manufacturer’s website and downloading the latest driver for your model. Once you’ve downloaded it, open Device Manager and locate your scanner under Imaging devices. Right-click on it and select Update Driver Software. Then follow the instructions on screen to install the new driver.

Disconnect other USB devices
If you have any other USB devices connected to your computer, disconnect them and try connecting the scanner again.
Check cable
Make sure that the USB cable is in good condition and is properly plugged into both your computer and scanner.
Enable USB debugging
If you’re using a USB connection on an Android device, you may need to enable USB debugging. See your device’s manual for more information.
Hard reset the scanner
If your scanner isn’t being detected by your computer, it may be because of a problem with the scanner itself. Try turning it off and then back on. If that doesn’t work, try unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. If none of these solutions work, the scanner may need to be repaired or replaced.
Incompatible software
If you’re using incompatible software, your scanner may not be able to connect to your computer. Uninstall any unnecessary software and try scanning again.
Connection issues
If there are any problems with your scanner’s connection, it may not be able to connect to your computer. Try scanning from a different location or using a different USB port.
Hardware issues
If there are any problems with your scanner’s hardware, it may not be able to connect to your computer. Try scanning from a different location or using a different USB port. If the problem persists, the scanner may need to be repaired or replaced.
