Steps to fix Office Error code 30015-4 (1006)

User Case:

Yesterday morning we had a client who ring us for a general check up on the system.

After installing Office 365, we stumbled upon the Office error code 30015-4, fortunately we were able to fix it soon enough but for those who are panicking, don’t worry, we have outlined the exact steps below that helped fixed his issue!

Step #3 fixed our issue, but make sure to try them all!

Let’s begin.

Error code 30015-4 (1006) is a common error discovered when one attempts to install Microsoft Office on their computer.

There are many reasons why users are unable to install the popular office suite on their computers. Some of the most common reasons are system files corruption, missing registry keys, incomplete uninstallations of previous versions of Office, and other applications having issues while Office is being installed.

If you are experiencing this problem, just follow these steps:

1. SFC Scan:

You should immediately launch a system file checker scan to find out if any system files are corrupted on your computer. Not only will the SFC scan help you to find system files that are not working correctly, but it will also check for missing or damaged system files and replace them automatically from the locally stored cached system files.

Here’s how to perform an SFC Scan:

  • Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, open Start, type cmd, and press enter.
  • In the command prompt window, type SFC /scannow and press enter.

2. Disable Firewall:

Sometimes the firewall may conflict with the installation process, which will result in the Microsoft Office Error code 30015-4 (1006) to appear. To fix this, you may try disabling the firewall on your computer during the installation process of Office.

Steps to disable the firewall:

  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security.
  • Click Windows Firewall.
  • Select Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  • Click OFF.
  • Retry the installation of Microsoft Office to check if it works.

You can re-enable the firewall after Office has been installed and running on your computer.

3. Remove Previously Installed Office Products & Try to Install Newest Version

In some cases, it is possible that the previous version of office products are still present in the registry. Some of the previous versions such as office 2010 are not compatible with the newer versions such as office 365. To uninstall older office versions, please follow the steps listed below:

  • Navigate to Control Panel
  • Click on “Uninstall A Program.”
  • Select the older or damaged version of Office product to uninstall
  • Select Uninstall to start the uninstallation process.
  • Restart your system to ensure the complete uninstallation process.

After restarting your system, you may try to install the newer version of Office to check if the error code 30015-4 (1006) appears again or not.

4. Delete the Office Registry Subkeys

Steps to delete the incorrectly installed registry keys:

  • Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, open Start, type cmd, and press enter.
  • In the command prompt window, type RegEdit and press enter.
  • Navigate to the key hives of Microsoft Office, for example, Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\
  • Delete subkeys which are associated with Microsoft Office, including 11.0, 12.0, 14.0, 15.0, 16.0, COMMON, SOFTWARE
  • Restart your computer to make the change take effect.

5. Disable Antivirus Software

A lot of users have found out that antivirus software such as Norton or McAfee often interferes with the Microsoft Office installation and can cause error code 30015-4 (1006).

To check if your antivirus is the culprit, you may try temporarily disabling the antivirus software and then try to install Microsoft Office again.

6. Use DISM to repair the image of Windows 10

Check problems with DISM using CheckHealth option

The CheckHealth option in DISM will check if there are any corruptions within the local image but doesn’t perform any repairs.

To check the Windows 10 image for issues with DISM, use these steps:

  • Open Start.
  • Search for Command Prompt, right-click and select the Run as administrator.
  • Type the following command and press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

  • Open Start.
  • Search for Command Prompt, right-click and select the Run as administrator.
  • Type the following command press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Repair problems with DISM using RestoreHealth option

To repair Windows 10 image corruptions , use these steps:

  • Open Start.
  • Search for Command Prompt, right-click and select the Run as administrator.
  • Type the following command and press Enter:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

7. Reinstall Windows.

How to perform reinstallation of Windows 10.

  • Download the Windows 10 installation media from here.
  • Open the installation media and download Windows 10 ISO. It may take several minutes to hours, depending on your internet connection, to download the Windows 10 ISO file.
  • Go ahead and reinstall Windows 10. The installation time will vary depending on the amount of data and configuration of your PC.
