This weekend we did something exciting. We got a chance to compare the best processor in the Ryzen 7 series – the Ryzen 7 7700X and the best processor in the Intel Core i7 series – the i7-12700K processor.

Ryzen 7 7700X is serious processor power, packing 8 cores and 16 threads that can reach a blazing 5.4GHz peak boost speed. Even in heavy multi-threaded tasks, it maintains speeds of an impressive 5.2GHz on all the cores – no slouching here!

Ryzen 7 7700X has made a huge leap in performance over its predecessor – Cinebench R23 multi-threaded score was pretty impressive, but does it beat the i7 12700K? No.

The Intel i7 12700K scored about 22500 in our Cinebench R23 multi-threaded test, while the Ryzen 7 7700X scored about 20000!

AMD has a lot to be proud of here, as their single-threaded performance has rocketed compared with the Ryzen 7 5800X and its predecessor. This latest development shows just how far they’ve come.

Intel 12700K scored about 1900 points in the single-threaded test, while the Ryzen 7 scored about 2000 points – hats off to AMD! 🙂


It looks like the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X has a major appetite for power, drawing up to 40W more than its predecessor and 30W more than Intel’s Core i7-12700K at max load. So much energy is required – no wonder it packs some serious punch!

As of 2023, the i7 12700K is the clear-cut winner when compared to its competition, but where the AMD equivalent excels is in workloads that prioritize raw performance over multiple cores – which is most applications – as well as gaming are just some of the activities you can expect to run faster with this CPU.
